Are You Overpaying For Your Pet’s Medication
Pet owners may not be given basic information like price lists online and are not
always informed of the cost of treatment at a vets before agreeing to it.
Unlike vet practices, online pharmacies are able to store medication in bulk which
enables them to keep the costs down, some medications cost as much as 70% less to
buy online.
You can order at home and have them delivered to your door. And when you avoid
expensive pet meds you're less likely to hit your pet insurance limit. Save time and
money by taking control of your pet's prescription.
If prescription medication is required, your vet is legally obliged to write you a
prescription on request. They can charge a fee for writing a prescription, but it should
not be excessive (most vets charge between £20 -£35).
How To Get A Prescription From Your Vet
If your vet determines that your pet needs prescription medications, you can ask
them for a written prescription so you can buy the drugs online - rather than directly
from the surgery.
There are lots of online pet medication companies, take a look at some of these ( be
aware though that prices vary across pet pharmacy products, sizes and retailers):
• Pet Drugs Online (go through Easyfundraising and raise a donation for BTRF)
• Animeddirect.co.uk
• 365 VET
• UK Pets
• Vetscriptions
Check that your chosen pharmacy is Veterinary Medicines Directorate Approved and
a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons – look for the VMD Accredited
Retailer badge on their site.
You will be asked to upload a photo or scan of the prescription.
Once you have a prescription from your vet, place the medication you need in your
basket, checkout and sit back and relax.
