… CHILLIN’ HIS PAWS

language and limitations and just doesn’t
put him into situations where she knows

he will not cope or feels totally out of his
                                                              depth.

His behavioural care and support is

ongoing and, to a certain extent, will
probably be for the rest of his life but in

the last five months he has changed
from a dog who was stressed, frustrated

and terrified to one who is gradually
learning to relax and to enjoy life.
With lots and lots and lots of patience,
an amazingly understanding foster carer Our thanks to his foster carer for her
                                                              patience, understanding and willingness
and with the professional back up and
support in place to help him (on call to to learn, the behaviourist working with
them and our supporters who, with your
help pretty much 24hours a day in the
early weeks!), he was gradually able to donations, enable us to help dogs like
                                                              Silver.
understand that humans are not all bad

and that when he ‘communicated’ that Oh, and we have a sneaky suspicion that
he felt stressed and out of his comfort he isn’t going anywhere – he is clearly

zone in different situations, he would be very much loved!
listened too and given the space he

     needed. This hadn’t happened in
the past and caused him a huge amount
     of frustration and stress which

     compounded his behaviour.

Five months in, he is just beginning to
relax and enjoy life. He is not ‘cured’ –

you cannot simply wipe away the type of
learned history he carries as baggage

and when push comes to shove, make
no mistake his learned default response

to want to move people away will come
to the surface quickly. But the foster

carer is learning to read his body
