My passion for Bedlington Terriers came through our Group Coordinator, Frances Fuller! I was searching for a Bedlington x Whippet pup and someone put me in touch with her with the recommendation that 'she produced good puppies'! So came Reuben who was quickly followed by Tweed, our liver Beddie girl, also one of Frances' pups who I had the great privilege to be involved with from the mating through to the birth - an amazing experience that taught me so much about Bedlingtons and puppy development which all helped in my professional life!
Frances and I became friends with a shared passion for Bedlingtons and dogs in general and that of course inevitably led to my involvment with BTRF! As a professional dog trainer with a particular interest in canine psychology and behaviour I wanted to bring those skills and expertise to the BTRF team, so took on the role of Training / Behaviour Advisor. I very much love working with BTRF and its very dedicated team of volunteers.
Outside of BTRF, I run my own training / behaviour business, Right Start Dog Training and have been training dogs for over twenty five years and have actively competed in agility and obedience with my own dogs over the years - with Reuben now doing well on the agility competition circuit.
I am a current member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), on their team of Instructor Assessors assessing applicants around the country applying for membership of the Association. I also served on the APDT committee for 12 years.
I passed my Advanced Canine Psychology course with a Distinction, through the Animal Care College. I am also currently working towards my Advanced Diploma Applied Animal Behaviour (Canine) Level 5.
As well as instructing with Right Start Dog Training, I am Chair, Treasurer and one of the Senior Instructors of the Sevenoaks and District Dog Training Society, a training club which has been training puppies and dogs for over fifty years.
